More likely to make the last LR pitch 200 pitches than see that. PS - you have 7 bullpen slots for close games, and 5 bullpen slots for non-close games. Most ML teams run 7 man bullpens. I find it hard to see why additional slots are needed. |

I understand where people are coming from. Sometimes MR gets out in the 8th inning with the team down by 3 runs. Some people would like the setup reliever to come in, others would prefer another MR came in and spare the setup reliever for situations where the team is up by 3 or fewer runs. There should be a pitching management option where current score would be taken in consideration, and where we could set things like, for example, SET does not come in unless team is winning. |

All it’s required is the addition of 2 new pitching settings next to hook and first inning. Those new settings would be min RD and max RD, RD being Run Difference. So, if you wanted your SET to come in only when the team is winning you would set min RD +1 and max RD +3. MR could be set with -4 and +infinite, one LR could be set with -infinite and -4, LR2 could be set with +8 and +infinite, and things like that. Starters would always be set with –infinite and + infinite and we wouldn’t be able to change that. At the moment, we got pitch count and hook to set when we want a certain pitcher to come out of the game, but we only have first inning to have a say on when a given pitcher would come in. It’s not enough. Run Difference settings could be a complement that. |

They act as default MR when you set them up with MR length hooks/pitch counts and set them to come in in a MR inning appearance... for all intensive purposes the "specialists" can be MR. See Cunningham on my staff right now. Second, that said I actually like Mig's idea stated in the above post of adding min and max RD settings to when they come in, that would allow a lot more control over the pitching and take some of the random managerial annoyance associated with pitcher management out. |

I have a closer, and a setup. I want to use the other 5 slots for LR and MR, but that isn't an option with the current system.

newtman Joined: 11/02/2013 Posts: 3343 Inactive | ... if the RH Setup is set to come in in the 5th inning has a pitch count of 30, and has a hook of two then he is going to be used like a middle reliever by the game. It really isn't hard, but whatever...

I ONLY want the closer and the setup to pitch late in games that I am winning by a small margin. I don't want my crappy 3rd MR who is assigned as a RH setup to come in because the AI thinks he's a setup man.

Yes, I am implying that through management settings some roles can be manipulated to be morphed into other roles. Cunningham last season was set to come in in the 5th inning as RH Setup and pitch 30 pitches with a hook of two. This usually had him finished by the 7th or 8th when the real setup men came in unless he was mowing guys down, in which case I didn't mind him staying in the game. |
