I have rewritten this article that is found by clicking on Help. This revised article will help retain owners who just signed up for the game and make them stick around (as it explains the many cool things you can do in BB) in my opinion. This is the least convoluted, and most sequential checklist I could possibly write it and it took hours to craft. Admin, please implement. Thank you.

Newbie Owner Checklist

Follow these steps and you will be on your way to turning your newly-acquired franchise into a winner.

1. Customize your Team Color, Team Mascot & Logo. You may also, for a limited time, relocate to a new city and state. You can do this by clicking on Profile.

2. Customize your Ballpark. Adjust your Ballpark capacity to match expected attendance for the current season. The Ballpark has several attributes that affect your club’s Finances, as well as the outcome of games. You may change the Ballpark dimensions and name your Ballpark. You can customize for a period of 20 days after an ownership change. You can do this by clicking on Ballpark.

3. Write a Press Release. Announce the club’s direction and goals. Include quotes from players and the Manager for the other clubs in the League to read. You can do this by clicking on Club, and then clicking on New Press Release.

4. Update your Lineup. You may change the club’s batting order and the position that each player will play in the field. Setup your regular season Lineup for facing left-handed pitchers (LHP) and right-handed Pitchers (RHP). Left-handed batters hit better against right-handed pitchers and vice versa, while switch hitters always have the platoon advantage. You can do this by clicking on Lineup, and then clicking on Update Lineup.

5. Update your Pitching. Set the starters in the pitching rotation and set your bullpen. Starters need Stamina to pitch many innings and should have high levels in the pitching skills. You can do this by clicking on Pitching.

6. Manage your player’s individual style of play. You can use your own strategy as to what kind of in-game decisions you want your players to make. Here you can choose for your hitters and pitchers to be aggressive or conservative, and choose when to call players from the bench and the bullpen. You can do this by clicking on Management.

7. Add players to your club through free agency and through the amateur draft. Sign Free Agents at a position of need. You can search for non-pitchers (NP) and pitchers (P). You can do this by clicking on Free Agents. Pay attention the salaries of your current players and potential Free Agent signee’s player salaries (shown in the search results), as they will affect your club’s Finances. Rookies are players that are young and unskilled, but may have the potential to be a major leaguer in the future. You can draft a rookie once a week for your Minors by clicking on Roster, and then clicking on Add Player.

8. Check your position in the League. You can check your club’s progress by viewing the league standings, as well as view league leaders statistics in the League Links section. Media coverage of league transactions and press releases are here as well. You can do this by clicking on League.

9. Check the outcome of your club’s most recent games and view a list of your upcoming games. You can do this by clicking on Schedule.

10. View your club’s History. The highs and lows of the franchise are shown here. You may view the trophy cabinet. You can do this by clicking on History.

11. Help your Minors learn new positions. Assign your minor leaguers to appropriate positions based on their defensive skills so that they begin gaining experience playing there. They will eventually learn a new position in due time. You can do this by clicking on Minors, and then using the drop down menus for each player.

12. Realign your minor league players so they're at the right Minors level and perhaps call up players that might be good enough to play in the major leagues. Arrows indicate recommendations that will help your player reach his full training potential. You can do this by clicking on Minors, and then clicking on Reassign Players.

13. View where you rank in all of Broken Bat. You can do this by clicking on Rankings, and then clicking on Show entire ranking.

14. Visit the Forum often and read and write messages with the Broken Bat community. You can do this by clicking on Forum.

Okay...I updated the newbie check list with your contributions and also re-worked some of the old and new stuff.

Some of the list was outdated, so I tried to break up drafting and free agents as they are separate features (for a long time now). A lot more changes too...but it needed an update.

Thanks Hardcastle!
