Couple of suggestions might be all-time heads-up record between the two teams, highest scoring games, longest winning streaks, links to the game with the most innings etc. A little bit of trivia in that pre-match analysis vein could go a long way towards adding a bit of colour to a team's history and give rise to some friendly rivalries. Edit: Thinking about this a bit further, maybe you could reference player records too to say "<Team A>'s <Player Name> has just played his <nth> major league game for the club and is <x> <strikeouts/hits/runs/steals etc> away from the <team/league/Broken Bat> record" when players get to within a certain percentage of these milestones?
